Tiruchendur: is the second temple or House located on the Sea shore. The Muruga broke the Krouncha mountain into two pieces and killed Tarakasura and seettled at senthil with his consort Deivayanai. Arumuga reached Viramahendrapuram and defeated the forces of Surapadman and hence got the name as 'kandan'. He blesses his devotees with his calm posture. We are told that Kumaragurupara swamy who was dumb got his power of speach with the grace of kumara and composed the script called 'Subramania Bujangam'. 'The Tiruchendur Agaval' also sings the praise of this deity and a devotee will be blessed with a long life and can wash off his sins by praying to Senthil Andava.

Palani:(Palaniyampathi) : In this third abode, Kumara has the appearance as, Dhandayuthapani. It is here that the Lord destroyed Idumbasura and gave him two boons as desired by him. By one boon, he became the sentry to the Lord's temple there and the other is to show affection and kindness to the devotees who carry the kavadi to this temple to fulfil their commitments to the Deity. Palani also connotes in Tamil that he is the 'Gnana' fruit for his parents Siva and Uma Devi. At the nearby place called Thiruvavinankudi, Muruga shows his appearance as with Deivayanai. The palani temple and its greatness is praised in thescriptures loke 'pillai tamil' 'Kovai Maalai'. 'Andhadhi'and in the various slokas and songs of the poets and saints.

Tiruveragam (swamimalai) : is the fourth abode in the group and Muruga appears here as 'Swaminatha'.    Kandhan: This word means one who destroys the enemies. From this,we have the scriptures like Kandharanuboothi, Kanda Puranam, Kanda Shashti Kavacham,Kandar Andhadhi, Kandar Kalivenba etc. Kachiappa Sivachariar explains the significance of this name in his "Kanda Puranam".

Kumaran: Kandaranubhoothi mentions this name in the slokas for worshipping Muruga with sincere devotion. In 'Kumaran' 'Ku' means the illusion in our life. 'Maran' means one who destroys. Therefore the word connotes that the Lord dispels the illusion in our life. Saint Arunagirinathar eulogises Lord Muruga as 'Kumara' in the Anubhuthi and other poems,

Guhan' means te the Lord resides in the heart(cave) of the devotees.

Visakan: Lord Muruga's avatar took place in Vaikasi month and Visakam is his star.Further, 'Vi'means bird i.e. peacock and 'sakan'means one who travels or goes around. Thus, the peacock word connotes the meaning as one who goes with the peacock as vahana.

Subramanian:  This name also has different meanings. "Su"means eminent, excellent, 'Biramanian'means foremost of the Brahmins and Vedas, therefore means foremost Lord. Another meaning is derived from the word 'Piramam' which means the Almighty, Lord Siva, 'Nyam' means originating from that source thereby meaning the great power which originated from the sparking forehead of Siva. In Tamil we find many scriptures praising the Lord with this name.
